Secretary Alison Norris

This Week's Speaker
Jackie Cuthbert, Secretary, GRSP Executive Committee

Join us this Friday at the Embassy Suites, where our own Jackie Cuthbert will talk about the realities and the magic of the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP). Find out why Jackie has been involved in the program for almost her entire Rotary career - and believes the program offers value to students, host families, Rotary Clubs and the world we live in. And learn about Dunwoody's investment in the program.

GRSP started almost 80 years ago in 1946, when Thomasville Rotarian and future District Governor Will Watt envisioned a program that would bring together college students from war-torn Europe for a year of study and cultural exchange here in Georgia. He believed the program's future would help to "build peace through understanding" by making it possible for young people from around the world to get to know each other better. Today, the program has sponsored about 3,800 students from 120 countries. [more]

Service Opportunity
This Friday: Special Olympics Basketball Skills Workshop

Join us in a special Dunwoody tradition as we help with the annual Special Olympics Basketball Skills Clinic and Competition on Friday, December 6 at Peachtree Middle School, 4664 N Peachtree Rd., Dunwoody 30338. The workshop runs from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm - and you can sign up for an hour and a half shift or the full three-hour session.

Wondering what it's all about:

  • Fact:  Through participation in athletics, Special Olympic athletes learn life skills that transfer to home, community, school, work place.
  • Fact:  While Special Olympics athletes work hard to achieve their goals, thousands of volunteers partner with athletes helping them achieve success.
  • Fact:  Dunwoody Rotarians and Atlanta Rotaract have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of 150+ DeKalb County special needs students and their families.
Haven't registered to volunteer? Check in with Rick Woods at 678- 296-2295 or sdoowrm@gmail.com, or Kathy Brandt at 404-797-0705 or kgbrandt1@comcast.net

One Week until Holiday Luncheon - RSVP Now! And Shop for Toys!

You and a guest are invited to join in a Dunwoody tradition ... the 41st Annual Holiday Luncheon on Friday, December 13 at the Dunwoody Country Club. Arrive 11-11:30am with the welcome to start at 11:30am. As always, we welcome your spouse or special guest. RSVP to Dave Burr (dave@mailcenteretc.com) by this Friday, December 6.

We plan for the Dresden Elementary School chorus to provide some beautiful entertainment. And we hope to build a fine display of toys destined for donation to Toys for Tots!  Please consider bringing a new, unwrapped toy to help spread some holiday joy this year to children and families in our community. And thanks to Jim and Janet Glass for leading our Toys for Tots efforts.

Thanks for Your Service
Dunwoody Helps 89 Kingsley Families

TThanks to everyone who helped gather food items at Costco, buy turkeys at Publix, assemble harvest baskets, and provide assistance getting these heavy boxes to the cars of grateful recipients! All your efforts made Thanksgiving special for 89 needy families at Kingsley Elementary - and provided food for another week or so. Special thanks to Honorary Dunwoody Rotarian Anita Augello and her daughter Claudia for once again coordinating our efforts. Anita is also coordinating our efforts to provide a new book to each Kingsley student as part of Dunwoody's holiday tradition and commitment to education.
