FAMILY OF ROTARY

President's Message
Serving A Need

Roswell Rotary was awarded a competitive district grant to provide an evidence based Zero Suicide Training Initiative to licensed professional counselors, psychologists, social workers and therapists. Working with WellStar’s Behavioral Health Services, registration for the October 16th virtual webinar went live last Friday. Seating is limited to one hundred  providers. Eighty registrations were received in twenty minutes.  Within hours registration was closed, as every seat was filled.

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death both in Georgia and the United States. Those at risk are showing up for care at different access points in our community and yet very few providers are trained to identify, assess, and treat these patients with evidence-based care.

Thank you Wellstar for partnering with us to train those who ensure patient safety and who care for and treat suicidal patients. Together, we are making a difference.

This Week's Speaker
Mixed Use Development: Avalon and Beyond

Mark Toro’s passion lies in creating smarter built environments and healthier, happier places. He believes a thoughtfully designed place fosters a higher quality of life for its users, and as a new grandfather, he hopes his vision will result in a better tomorrow for our children and grandchildren. Whether through his relentless advocating for expanded transit and walkability, lending his expertise to rebuild one of Atlanta’s most impoverished neighborhoods or developing award-winning mixed-use communities, Mark is constantly reimagining “place” by focusing on the street level energy and human experience. With the recent repositioning of Atlantic Station, development of Alpharetta’s $1 billion Avalon project and redevelopment of Colony Square, Mark continues to fearlessly lead the NAP Atlanta team through uncharted waters, where together they are developing a new generation of experience-driven commercial real estate.

Ever engaged in helping to shape the future of metro Atlanta, Mark currently chairs Midtown Alliance’s Board of Directors and serves on the Boards of Woodruff Arts Center and City of Refuge, where he chairs the $25 million “Shining the Light” capital campaign. An outspoken transit advocate, Mark was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of The ATL by Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor. The newly formed authority will govern expansion of public transportation throughout the Atlanta region.

Mark attended Rutgers University, where he met his wife, Nancy. The Toros have two daughters and four grandchildren.
